El objetivo de este libro es ofrecer a los terapeutasocupacionales, en especial a quienes se inician en la actividad y alos estudiantes, una guía completa y práctica para evaluar a losniños. Incluye toda la información necesaria para el proceso deevaluación, que se describe de manera coherente con losconceptos incluidos en el Marco de referencia de la práctica deterapia ocupacional de la Asociación Americana de TerapiaOcupacional (AOTA).
El capítulo 1 identifica las principales características de lossistemas y ámbitos de la práctica del terapeuta ocupacional enpediatría; el capítulo 2 describe paso a paso el proceso deevaluación; el capítulo 3 brinda información básica sobre eldesarrollo del niño normal con especial atención en lasocupaciones y habilidades típicas en las distintas edades; elcapítulo 4 cubre los aspectos relacionados con la evaluaciónestandarizada, cómo interpretar las puntuaciones y los factoresque deben considerarse al seleccionar los instrumentos deevaluación; el capítulo 5 presenta las técnicas de evaluación noestandarizadas, incluidas las entrevistas y las observaciones; elcapítulo 6 se centra en la formación de equipos y proveeinstrucciones para realizar evaluaciones en conjunto; finalmente,el capítulo 7 amplía el material del capítulo 2 en relación con lasdos etapas finales del proceso de evaluación: la interpretación ysíntesis de los datos para la planificación de la intervención, y lacomunicación y documentación de los resultados.A lo largo de toda la obra, se presentan cuadros, recuadros yfiguras que facilitan el acceso rápido a la información y lostérminos clave se muestran en negrita.
